Introducing the Gabon Mining Club

The Gabon Mining Club (GMC) is proud to sponsor Paydirt Media’s annual Africa Downunder conference, to be held in Perth, Western Australia from Wednesday 1 to Friday 3 September, 2021. Founding members, Apollo Minerals Limited (ASX: AON) and Genmin Limited (ASX: GEN), are Perth-based ASX listed exploration companies with projects in the Republic of Gabon, central West Africa.

Apollo and Genmin are united in their commitment to the exploration and development of mining projects in Gabon, a country with a long and stable history of successful extractive industry activity. Gabon offers strong government support to expand and develop its mining industry, and boasts ongoing investment in established rail, port, and hydropower infrastructure.

Apollo is focused on the exploration and development of the province-scale Kroussou Project which has ~1,000km² prospective for zinc and lead in western Gabon.

“Gabon’s modern and transparent 2019 Mining Code is backed by highly supportive government and local communities, eager for their mining industry to develop. Gabon’s encouraging operating environment includes tax holidays of between three to eight years, depending on project life, and a royalty of 3-5% on base metals to be negotiated within individual mining conventions. In addition, the abundance of natural resources and the proactive diversification of export revenues from oil and gas, make Gabon a very attractive place for us to operate”, commented John Welborn, Apollo Director.

Genmin is developing the Baniaka Iron Ore Project, part of the company’s 100% owned potential iron ore province in south-east Gabon covering ~2,500km2.

“Thanks to its rich oil and gas history, Gabon is a wealthy, politically and economically stable, investment friendly jurisdiction. The country is leading the way as a “green superpower”, with its commitment to hydropower and the sustainable preservation of its rainforests which cover ~85% of the country. In June this year, Gabon was the first African country to be paid for reducing carbon emissions by protecting its forests. As pivotal players in developing Gabon’s mining industry, we have a real opportunity to advance projects which deliver tangible and valuable sustainability contributions”, said Joe Ariti, Genmin’s Managing Director and CEO.

Catch up with the Apollo and Genmin teams on Day 1 of Africa Downunder in September and enjoy a morning tea provided by the Gabon Mining Club.
