Gabon’s 61st year of independence

This week, the Republic of Gabon marked its 61st anniversary of independence from France on 17 August 1960. This important public holiday is widely celebrated each year, with cultural events and activities taking place across the country.

With minimal COVID-19 infections in Gabon, the annual Independence Day parade went ahead in Libreville on Tuesday, attended by President Ali Bongo and the first lady of Gabon, Sylvia Bongo Ondimba. At a local level, Genmin provided a festive lunch for our team at the Tsengué Base Camp at Baniaka, before the annual football match in the nearby village of Boumango. Our team played a friendly yet competitive game against the locals, resulting in a 1 all draw.

Over the past eight years since commencement of our operations in Gabon, we have proudly sponsored Independence Day events for our local communities.

Nous sommes fiers d’être Gabonais ! Vive le Gabon !
